For our first “An Audience with” series of 2025 we’re delighted to be joined by Nick Bassi, co-founder and CEO of Childsplay clothing and his daughter Serena Bassi, a rising leader poised to take over the multi-million-pound luxury children’s clothing business.
What began as a modest children’s boutique in Ilford, Essex, has transformed into one of the largest global online retailers in luxury childrenswear. Childsplay Clothing counts among its clients not only the Kardashians but a list of internationally renowned names, including Beyoncé, DJ Khaled, Amir Khan, Huda Kattan, The Game, Amber Rose, and Lionel Messi, to name just a few.
In its early days, establishing Childsplay was a challenging journey. The luxury market is famously selective, and Nick and his brother had to work persistently to gain permission to stock high-end designer labels. “Designers are very particular about the channels they use to distribute their brands,” Nick explains. “When we started, we couldn’t carry any major luxury labels until we had built a respected track record. It took several years to earn their trust and for them to even consider us.” Today, this dedication has paid off: the business now employs over 100 staff and ships to more than 160 countries worldwide.
Currently a lead buyer for the luxury childrenswear destination, Serena is amassing her experience and making her own mark on the industry, as she sets to take over from her father Nick in the coming years, continuing the brands legacy.
